FLORAL DESIGNS FOR CHRISTMAS

CHRISTMAS DESIGN 25

This arrangement was the final one of four which I made for a demonstration to Bromsgrove & District Flower Arranging Society in December 2003.

I have used a large rectangular basket for this design, with floral foam for the mechanics. On the left hand side, I have used a gold sheaf, and this is held in position by a large plastic frog, onto which the sheaf is impaled. The sheaf is wound round with gold wired cord. In the centre is a large copper-coloured sphere. A long strip of bark has been wound through the design to give interest and texture. All the materials used have been grouped. Foliage used is Phormium tenax variegata, which has been manipulated at the top, and stapled into position, and has also been used folded into an arc at the back of the sphere. Palm leaves, red-tinted Mahonia, Hedera colchica leaves (rolled around small groups of copper coloured baubles), and Hedera helix "Buttercup" have also been used. On the right of the design, I have used a couple of stems of Salix erythrosaurus, which has beautiful dark orange colouring. Flowers used are orange Lilies, orange Roses, and a group of Echinacea purpurea centres, which are a lovely deep orange-brown colour. Finally, I have added a bunch of artificial grapes, and three gold artificial Anthuriums.
