FLORAL DESIGNS FOR CHRISTMAS

CHRISTMAS DESIGN 15

This was a design I made for a demonstration to Bromsgrove & District Flower Arrangement Society at their December 2001 meeting. Myself and two other members did an arrangement each, following our AGM. I made the design in a tall glass container, which had silver sequin waste ribbon* inside. A dish with floral foam fitted inside the neck of the container formed the mechanics. Foliage used was Phormium tenax "Maori Queen", Fatshedera lizei, and Mahonia japonica. Flowers used were Liatris spicata, pink Carnations, pink Roses, and arching white Euphorbia fulgens, with pink "Stargazer" Lilies for the focal point. Some silver Corylus avellana 'Contorta' formed the height, with some tall silver wooden candle holders with pink candles. The vase sat upon a round silver tin to give a bit more height, and this was also covered with silver sequin waste ribbon*. To finish the arrangement, I added three silver studded balls at the base of the design, and several smaller silver baubles. I concealed a string of fairy lights inside the glass container, and at the end of the demonstration, switched them on!

*Sequin waste ribbon is produced when manufactured sequins are punched out of solid plastic ribbon. The resultant waste ribbon has many holes all along its length, of whatever shape and size the sequins were. It comes on a roll in lots of different colours, and is usually sold by the metre in haberdashery stores.
