CAREX PHYLLOCEPHALA 'SPARKLER'
Common Name: Tenjiku Sedge
Family: Cyperaceae

There are over 1500 different species of Carex, some are hardy, and some are not, some are evergreen, some are not. They are grass-like plants, but are not true Grasses, but Sedges. Carex phyllocephala 'Sparkler' is a lovely hardy evergreen sedge with white margins to its green leaves. Its stems grow quite tall, to about 70cm, and give the effect of a plume of feathers. It gives a lovely change of colour and texture against plain green leaves in an arrangement. It needs a damp site in part shade, or full sun if not allowed to dry out.
