PICEA PUNGENS
Common Name: Blue Spruce
Family: Pinaceae
Picea pungens is a "blue" conifer, growing up to 15 metres tall. Some varieties have very "blue" foliage, such as 'Hoopsii' and 'Koster'. As well as being a good contrast of form and colour, Picea pungens is invaluable to use at Christmas or for Advent wreaths, when blue is the colour which should be used. The picture shows the plant in spring, when the colourful "flowers" are beginning to form. These will later turn to cones. |
