This arrangement is a cascade, or waterfall design. It is made in a tall galvanized cylindrical container, with a plastic florists' saucer and floral foam inserted into the top. For a design of this sort, you need cascading plant materials, as the whole design should look like a waterfall of flowers and foliage. The floral foam should be several centimetres above the rim of the container, in order to be able to insert the plant materials at a downward-facing angle. The foliage I have used is Asparagus setacea (long stems), and Xerophyllum tenax (Bear Grass). Flowers are yellow Euphorbia fulgens (defoliated, in order to show off the flowers better), which has lovely curving stems, peach Roses, dark peach standard Carnations, and dark peach spray Carnations. To finish the design, and to bring in the colour of the container, I have added some silver sprayed Corylus avellana 'Contorta' (contorted Hazel) stems. |
