This was an arrangement which I did for a competition entitled "My Garden". I have used a terracotta flower pot for the container, with a waterproof insert and floral foam for the mechanics. I have used some bamboo garden canes for the height, together with Phormium tenax. Plant materials used from the garden were curled Phormium tenax 'Maori Queen', Sedum spectabile, Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm', green berries of Phytolacca americana, Hosta, Fatsia japonica variegata, Euphorbia lathyris (Caper Spurge), Hakonechloa macra albo-aurea, Montbretia, Hypericum berries, and to add a bit of reality, a Rumex acetosa flower head (Dock!). From the florist, I have used peach coloured roses, and orange lilies. Accessories used are an artificial Red Admiral butterfly, a further two small terracotta pots with some dried runner beans coming out of them, and a heap of compost with a fork and trowel anchored into it! (How is that done, you ask - well, you need a lump of modelling clay or Plasticine, then you spear your fork and trowel into it at an appropriate angle, then cover the modelling clay with the compost. Easy!) I have used a hessian base, which is a more natural material than velvet or satin. |
