I always thought there should be some use for the pernicious weed, bindweed (Calystegia sepium), and now I've found it! Having weeded some long stems out of the garden, I noticed that they are really rather attractive, so I thought they would look good used in a flower arrangement. For this design, I have used a simple purple plastic container, with floral foam for the mechnics. I began by wrapping lots of defoliated bindweed around the edge of the container, leaving some ends free for crossing over the design later. I have chosen a strong purple and yellow colour scheme, and have grouped the flowers for more impact. I began in the centre with a group of lilac coloured Matthiola incana (Stocks), to give a bit of height to the design. Then I have grouped yellow Zantedeschia (Calla Lilies), purple Lissianthus (Eustoma), and yellow Roses. I have filled in any gaps with groups of green "Kermit" Chrysanthemums. Finally, I have wound the remaining stems of bindweed through the design.
