For this design, I chose a violet coloured modern ceramic container. Because the neck of the container was an odd shape, I used a thin plastic flower pot with the drainage holes blocked up with hot melt glue, which was flexible enough to squash into the shape of the neck of the container. This then held floral foam for the mechanics. Before inserting this pot inside the container though, I took two violet serviettes (paper napkins) and put them inside the neck of the container. Once the plastic pot had been inserted, the serviettes formed a frill around the neck. This was just to add a bit of extra texture to the design. You need to make sure that the serviettes don't get wet, though, or you could be in trouble! I have used just five Irises, and the foliage of Hebe, Equisetum hyemale (bent into triangles), and the Iris foliage, looped inside-out to show the silvery side of the leaves. Some dried and dyed purple Ficus religiosa (Bo Tree or Peepul Tree) leaves are also there to bring out the colour of the Irises, but they are not very visible in the picture. To finish the design, I have added some stems of Corylus avellana 'Contorta' (Contorted Hazel). |
