Here's a different take on using a glass container! I have used quite a tall glass vase, and cut a piece of floral foam smaller than the base of the vase. I then took some Fatshedera leaves and pinned them upright around the foam, to cover it. Then I took a plaited Kentia Palm leaf (plaited Bear grass or similar would give the same effect), and pinned this around the base of the foam, to hide any uneven stems on the Fatshedera. (See detailed picture below.) Then, I took the flowers and made the design in the foam, making sure that it was not taller than the vase. Finally, I inserted the whole design into the vase, so that it was viewed through the glass. I used a Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel) stem for the height, and peach Roses, Carnations, burgundy Leucanthemum and green 'Kermit' Chrysanthemums for the rest of the design. Finally, I added a few gold wired curly stems for added interest. You could do a similar design in any glass container with clear sides (not patterned or frosted), adjusting the scale of the plant material to the size of the container. |
This picture shows a closeup of the plaited Kentia Palm and Fatshedera lizei leaves in the base of the design. |
