This is a design based mainly on spherical shapes, and I have used a low black ceramic dish for the container. The mechanics are a block of floral foam, positioned diagonally in the container. For the height, I have used some Salix tortuosa (tortured Willow) stems which I have sprayed black, to match the container. I have inserted a collar of Fatshedera lizei 'Anna Mikkels' leaves around the floral foam, and on this sit two foam spheres, one 9cm diameter, and one 12cm diameter. These have been covered with Chrysanthemum heads, to about two thirds of the way down each sphere. The bottom third is kept free of flowers so that the spheres will sit correctly on the floral foam block. It is important to place the Chrysanthemum heads close together, so that no foam is showing between them. The tops of the spheres have been hollowed out to make a holder for two lime green candles. A slice of foam has been cut off the bottom of each sphere so that it sits flat on the block of floral foam, and is able to draw water from it. Two terracotta-coloured Zantedeschias (Calla Lilies) and three red Leucodendrons have been added behind the spheres to add height. Three black-sprayed wicker spheres have been added to repeat the colouring of the container and the Salix, and to add extra textural interest. | |
