This design was made for a competition entitled "An Arrangement With Water". I have used a shallow blue glazed dish for the container. Around the edge of the dish, I have used small rectangles of floral foam, chamfered to fit closely together to form a ring. I have grouped the plant material, which makes more of a colour and textural impact. The foliage used was all from the garden, and includes Buxus sempervirens, Bergenia, Heuchera 'Stormy Seas' and 'Plum Pudding', Fatsia japonica (trimmed to a rounded shape), and Hedera 'Ann Marie'. The flowers used were Gerbera, deep pink, yellow and orange Roses, lime-green 'Shamrock' Chrysanthemums, and Hyacinthoides non-scripta (Bluebells) to pick up the colour of the dish. All the flowers were from the florist, except the Bluebells, which were from the garden.
Finally, three gold-sprayed dried Lotus Pods (Nelumbo nucifera) were added, just to give a bit of extra shine and texture. Once the flowers were in place, the container was filled with water, and an orange candle placed in the centre. The water adds another element to the design, with its ripples and reflections.
