Design 375

(Beginners Class, 9.2.10)

The idea behind this design was to make an arrangement in an unusual container, or one that would not normally be used for flowers. I have chosen a bright green modern plastic watering can for this arrangement, with floral foam for the mechanics. Because the watering can has both a spout and a handle, these should not be completely covered by flowers or foliage. My colour scheme is orange and red which goes well with the lime green of the container. I've established the height with two Phormium tenax purpurea leaves, and bent one at right angles and threaded it through the other one to give a bit of extra interest. The foliage used is Fatshedera lizei 'Annemieke' and Hedera colchica 'Sulphur Heart', both of which have variegations of different greens which match well with the container. Other foliage used is Rhododendron 'Linda', with plain green almost oval leaves. The focal flowers are orange gerberas, with orange roses repeating the colour. Other flowers used are red Anigozanthus (Kangaroo Paw), red Leucodendron and dyed orange Chamelaucium (Waxflower).
