This is a traditional style posy table arrangement. It is made in a round plastic dish, with floral foam for the mechanics. This type of arrangement is suitable for a small side table or coffee table, or as a centrepiece for wedding reception tables. It also makes a charming gift to give to a hostess. The floral foam was cut to fit the dish, so that it is about 2" higher than the rim of the dish. The shape of the arrangement was first defined with linear foliage (Buxus sempervirens), arranged in a circular shape, and slightly domed over the top of the design. (Other fine leaved foliage such as Lonicera nitida or Eucalypus could be used instead.) Some conifer foliage was also added for a change of texture. Pale green spray Carnations were used to define the shape, and green spray Chrysanthemums for recession. Six orange gerberas were used for the focal flowers, arranged with five stems around the outside, and one in the centre. To finish the design, I have used some purple Statice limonium as a filler and to add variation of colour and form to the design. Other small fillers such as Gypsophila, Waxflower or Solidago could be used instead.

It's important to check the shape of a posy arrangement frequently, to ensure that it is circular. I find the best way to do this is to place the arrangement on the floor and look directly over it. This will soon show you if any adjustments to the shape need to be made. Check also that it is nicely domed in shape, but not too high or pointed.
