Design 355

(Beginners Class on 15.9.09)

This asymmetric triangle arrangement in autumn colours has been made in a square plastic container, with floral foam for the mechanics. The height is established with two Phormium tenax purpurea leaves, and the width with Weigela florida purpurea and Berberis thunbergii purpurea. The height of the arrangement when using a low container should be roughly twice the width of the container, plus the height of the container. For an asymmetrical design like this, one side should be longer than the other. The shape has been established with a selection of different shaped, coloured and textured foliage such as Hedera colchica 'Sulphur Heart', Buxus sempervirens, conifer and Acer palmatum atropurpureum. Five orange gerbera have been arranged at differing heights on the left, with seven orange roses on the right. The focal point has been formed from three small red and yellow apples, which have been attached to the foam with cocktail sticks (three per apple). Lime green spray Chrysanthemums have been used for recession and to give a lift to the colour scheme, and Clematis and Rudbeckia 'Herbstonne' seed heads have been used to give texture and added interest.
