Design 349

(Classes on 24.2.09)

This design is in the parallel style. I've used a rectangular blue trough with a matching saucer, and floral foam for the mechanics. The plant material is grouped, and each type is arranged parallel to each other, either vertically or horizontally. I began with the upright materials at the back, which were two groups of purple Liatris, and a group of Salix fargesii twigs. The next level down consists of groups of purple Freesia, Hedera helix 'Congesta' and blue Hyacinths. Groups of foliage were then added along the front and sides of the design, and these were Buxus sempervirens (Box), Fatsia japonica 'Aurea', Hedera colchica 'Sulphur Heart', and Olearia macrodonta (used with the silver underside of the leaf uppermost). Finally, I added groups of pale yellow roses, pale yellow Lilies, and green Skimmia x confusa 'Kew Green'.
