(Advanced Class on 10.2.09)

This asymmetrical design has been made in a long, low glass dish. I have used Oasis® Rainbow Foam™ for the mechanics. Rainbow foam is a type of coloured foam which can be used soaked for fresh flowers or dry for dried or artificial flowers. It is meant to be seen, and forms part of the design. I've used half a block of deep pink foam for the main mechanics, and then created some foam shapes by making some slices of lilac foam then cutting them out into shapes with a pastry cutter. I used a diamond shape and a circle, then cut the circles into halves. Some of the diamond shapes were fixed to the foam with Oasis Hat Pins. The rest were placed in the container as part of the design to give added interest. The flowers were grouped, and I've used Hyacinths, Singapore Orchids and 'Prado' Carnations. The small amount of foliage used can't be seen well in the picture, but was Hedera colchica, Fatshedera lizei and conifer. Two loops of Xeranthemum tenax (Bear Grass) give rhythm and enclosed space.
