Design 345

(Advanced Class on 3.2.09)

This contemporary design has been made in a lilac coloured pottery container, with floral foam for the mechanics. It incorporates Abaca, a natural fibre made from a particular species of Banana plant, Musa textilis. This is made into sheets which can be easily cut to shape, folded, rolled, stapled or anything else you want to do with it! It makes a good textural effect in a design, and can help link the colours of your container and flowers. It forms a major part of this design, and I have used it rolled into cone shapes, and also cut into ribbons which curl downwards. For height, I have used Phormium tenax Rainbow Maiden, with other foliage of Hedera colchica, Fatshedera lizei, conifer, and Podocarpus, with some Bear Grass (Xerophyllum tenax) looped to give enclosed space. The flowers are grouped low in the design and are white roses and white mini spray Chrysanthemums.
