FLORAL DESIGNS

Design 339

(Classes on 13.1.09)

The theme for this design was "An arrangement in a glass container", and for this, I've used a tall glass vase, with floral foam for the mechanics. Inside the vase, I've scrunched up some cellophane (the wrappers from the bunches of flowers!), then filled the vase with water to which I've added orange food colouring. This is a really cheap way to add interest to a glass vase! The floral foam sits in the neck of the vase and has been taped on with clear tape. For the height, I've used Phormium tenax purpurea and Lonicera pileata. Other foliage used is Leucothoe fontainesia, Podocarpus 'Young Rusty', Fatshedera lizei 'Annamieke', and some conifer which has turned bronze coloured in winter. Two stems of Phormium tenax 'Alison Blackman' have been looped to add interest. The flowers have been grouped and are orange roses, orange gerberas and blue Echinacea.
