(Afternoon Beginner's Class, 30.9.08)
This is a traditional style horizontal table arrangement. It is made in a clear plastic dish, with floral foam for the mechanics. The floral foam was cut to fit the dish, so that it is about 2" higher than the rim of the dish. The shape of the arrangement was first defined with Aspidistra and Buxus sempervirens (box) for the outline. Heavier Aucuba japonica (Spotted Laurel) foliage adds weight to balance the design. The shape has been further defined with pink spray Carnations. Five red rosess have been used for the focal flowers, with six green 'Prado' carnations for secondary flowers. More pink spray carnations have been used for recession. To finish the design, I have used green Alchemilla mollis as a filler and to add variation of form to the design. Other small fillers such as Gypsophila or Waxflower could be used instead.
