(Afternoon Beginner's Class, 23.9.08)

This is a traditional style symmetrical triangle table arrangement. It is made in a clear plastic dish, with floral foam for the mechanics. This type of arrangement is usually front-facing and is suitable for a small side table or to send as a gift for a birthday or other celebration. The floral foam was cut to fit the dish, so that it is about 2" higher than the rim of the dish. The shape of the arrangement was first defined with linear foliage, with Phormium tenax atropurpureum for the height, and Buxus sempervirens (box) for the outline. Heavier Aucuba japonica (Spotted Laurel) foliage adds weight at the base of the design. The shape has been further defined with pink spray Carnations. Pink lilies have been used for the focal flowers, with the most open one being placed towards the lower centre for visual balance. Some white spray Chrysanthemums have been used for recession. To finish the design, I have used a stem of deep pink Waxflower as a filler and to add variation of form to the design. Other small fillers such as Gypsophila could be used instead.
