This contemporary design has been made in a straight-sided shallow glass dish, and would be best viewed from above, maybe on a low coffee table. The mechanics are lots of flexible twigs of Hazel (Corylus avellana), which have been wound round inside the dish. A few straight twigs have been woven across the centre of the design, to form a random grid to help support the plant material. No foliage has been used in the design, which relies on the strong visual qualities of the materials used. I began by using five textural pods of Karela (Momordica charantia), (also known as bitter gourd or bitter melon), and supported them in the twigs, grading them by size and arranging them in a row. Next I arranged five yellow roses, again in a row, and finished off the design with three green 'Prado' standard carnations. |
