This is a contemporary design which utilises decorative wool to give a textural effect. I've used a round dark green plastic container, with floral foam for the mechanics. I began by adding a collar of orange sisal round the foam, to help hide the mechanics. Then I made a construction of dried restio stems, tying them together with copper bullion wire, then wrapping the decorative yarn around it. This was then pinned on to the foam. Then I added two groups of five upright straight sticks which have been bound with several layers of wool, and finished off at the top with a wooden bead of neutral or dark brown colouring. The picture below shows a closeup of the sticks. Five orange Gerbera were added, three on one side and two on the other, with two groups of five orange roses lower down. Some Skimmia japonica flowers and foliage were added to give a change of form and texture. Finally, some more orange sisal was added at the front of the design, with a few more wooden beads to add interest and repeat the form and colour of the beads on the ends of the upright sticks.
