FLORAL DESIGNS

Design 265

This is an interesting design, made in a wire shoe. It would be suitable as a different way of displaying a flower arrangement, or could be used as an alternative to other forms of wedding flowers, or in competition work. I began with a small rectangle of floral foam, which had been soaked and allowed to drain. I wrapped the base of this in lime-green sisal to help hide the mechanics. I then placed it in the shoe, towards the heel end, and arranged a few flowers and some foliage into it. I've used three pink Roses, a few green spray Chrysanthemums, and the foliage of Cordyline, China grass and Heuchera. A few pink Symphoricarpus berries help to bring interest to the design, and add a different texture. The shoe needs to drain somewhere before use, as inserting the flowers forces excess water out of it. If you're using it as an arrangement, it should sit on a platter or some other similar base to prevent the water from the foam from spoiling your surface. Remember that there's only a small amount of foam, so it should be watered daily. If you're using it as a bridal piece, it should be OK once drained and needn't be placed on any sort of container, but be careful not to place it on anything precious when in use.

These shoes come in two sizes, and in silver or gold coloured mesh, and you can buy them online here (UK only) - http://www.rainbowfloristsupplies.co.uk
