This design incorporating autumn fruits has been made on a 12" foam ring. The ring sits on a round bamboo tray (not visible in the picture). I began by adding foliage round the edge, with a small amount of foliage over the top of the ring. The foliage used was Fatsia japonica aurea, Hedera colchica 'Sulphur Heart', Cotinus cogyggria 'Royal Purple', and Pittosporum purpurea. I then added five small apples, six orange Roses, and six pale orange standard Carnations for focal interest. These need to be evenly distributed around the ring for visual balance. I then added small groups of rust coloured mini spray Chrysanthemums, Ivy flowers, orange Pyracantha berries and wired Acorns (Quercus robusta) and Horse Chestnuts (Aesculus hippocastanum). Finally, I filled in the centre of the ring with a collection of more Horse Chestnuts. You could use other fruits for this such as acorns, beech masts, sweet chestnuts, hazelnuts, etc. |
