This is an all-foliage design, which uses no flowers at all. Even in late September when this design was made,
there is such a lot of beautiful foliage around that it is possible to make lovely designs just using foliage. There are a few things to remember when making all foliage designs: |
For this design I've used a round basket with a metal liner, and floral foam for the mechanics. For the height, I've used Phormium tenax purpurea (purple, linear). Other foliage used is Hedera colchica 'Sulphur Heart' (variegated), Hedera helix 'Buttercup' (yellow), which has been grouped in the centre and wired together to form two rosettes for the focal area, and also cascades down at the front of the design, Heuchera 'Purple Mountain Majesty' (purple), Hosta 'Striptease' (green with a lime green and white variegation), Geranium palmatum (ferny, autumn coloured, red), Mahonia japonica (green, leathery shiny texture), Plectranthus 'Sasha' (yellow, deeply veined texture with purple stems), Cotinus cogyggria 'Royal Purple' (purple), Physocarpus opulifolius 'Diabolo' (deep purple/brown), Helichrysum angustifolium (silver grey), Fatsia japonica 'Aurea' (variegated), Correa alba (green with white undersides), Aquilegia 'Mellow Yellow' (yellow), and Phormium tenax 'Rainbow Maiden' (apricot pink). | |
