FLORAL DESIGNS

DESIGN 227

For this design, I've used a galvanized round container with handles, and floral foam for the mechanics. Like the previous design, it's simple, but made unusual with the use of manipulated foliage. Around the edge of the design, I've made a collar of rolled and stapled Laurel leaves (Prunus laurocerasus), inserting these into the foam three-quarters of the way round, leaving a quarter free. I've filled the edge of the free quarter with a mixture of lime green and deep green sisal, for added texture. More sisal has been added around the edge of the foam, above the Laurel leaves, to help hide the mechanics. The design is made up of three green and maroon Cymbidium Orchids, and three green "Shamrock" Chrysanthemums. I've also added a group of six rolled Hedera (Ivy) leaves, inside which I've inserted some pearl-headed pins. In the centre of the design, I've fixed a loop of plaited Equisetum hyemale (Snake Grass), which gives a lovely texture, as well as adding enclosed space. To finish off, I've used several pieces of Flexi-grass which have been bent to form a group of triangles of different sizes, adding rhythm to the design.
