For this design, I've used a brown round ceramic dish, with floral foam for the mechanics. It's quite a simple design, but made unusual with the use of manipulated foliage. I've made two herringbone plaits of Bear Grass (Xerophyllum tenax), which are looped to form enclosed space and fixed into the foam at either end. Around the edge of the design, I've made a collar of rolled and stapled Laurel leaves (Prunus laurocerasus). The design is made up of three green and maroon Cymbidium Orchids, and three green "Shamrock" Chrysanthemums (not in view in the picture). To add a different texture, I've finished off with two groups of mixed light and dark green sisal, one in the centre of the design, and one to the side. |
The pictures above show (left) the Shamrock Chrysanthemums against the collar of rolled Laurel leaves, and (right) a closeup of the herringbone plait of Bear Grass. | |
