This is a very easy design, using just twigs, Reindeer Moss (Cladonia rangifera) and Tulips. I have used a white dish for the container, with a layer of floral foam in the bottom, around 1" thick. Firstly, I covered the foam with green Reindeer moss, then added some cut stems of Rubus cockburnianus "Golden Vale", which were arranged in a circle around the perimeter of the container. Rubus cockburnianus is a lovely deciduous suckering shrub, with arching spiny stems which are covered in a white farina which rubs off to reveal apple green stems, sometimes flushed deep red, underneath. The leaves are feathery, and in the variety "Golden Vale", these are a wonderful yellow colour. When the leaves fall in autumn, they reveal the white stems, which remain a feature throughout the winter. Finally, I have added a group of white Tulips in the centre of the design. |
