FLORAL DESIGNS

DESIGN 186

This is a design made in a candlestick. I have used a plastic candle cup fitted into the top of the candlestick, with floral foam for the mechanics. When using a candle cup, the hole of the candlestick is often too big, so the best way to deal with this is either to use some floral fix (a green putty-like sticky substance) to wrap around the stem of the candle cup, or wind some pot tape around the stem to make it thicker. The stem should fit into the candlestick quite firmly using one of these techniques. The candle is fitted first, and because there is not much foam available, I have used two wire hairpin legs and taped them to the base of the candle using pot tape. This takes up less space than using a plastic candle holder. I have defined the shape using fine Eucalyptus foliage, with a few small-leaved Ivy trails. A few small Hedera (Ivy) leaves have been used in the centre to give definition and to help cover the mechanics. I have used six pink Roses for the focal flowers, and five stems of white spray Carnations to help define the shape. A stem each of white and green spray Chrysanthemums have been used for recession. Finally, I have used pink Chamelaucium uncinatum (Waxflower) for transitional or filler flowers.
