DESIGN 184 - reverse side

Here is an autumn arrangement made in a round basket with a handle. This is quite a deep basket, so I have used some scrunched up newspaper in the bottom of the basket so that a shallow plastic dish with floral foam for the mechanics can be balanced just inside the rim, thus avoiding having to use more than one block of floral foam. This is an all-round design, and I have used some lovely autumn leaves of Vitis coignetiae which are turning from green to fiery red and yellow colours, and some small branches of Acer palmatum "Senkaki" leaves which again are displaying their autumn colour of yellow. Other leaves used are Fatsia japonica variegata, Hedera colchica "Sulphur Heart", the feathery upright stems of the Lilies used in the design (in the centre of the design), and some small-leaved Hedera helix (Ivy) trails, which have been fixed to the handle using fine wire. I have used just three types of flowers - orange Lilies, red Spray Chrysanthemums, and orange Roses (variety unknown), and these have been used in groups. To add interest and accent to the design, I have also used three types of spherical plant material, thus adding repetition to the design. These are groups of three small red and yellow apples which have been fixed into position using barbecue sticks, three fruits of Maclura pomifera (Osage Orange), an unusual non-edible fruit which is lime-green with a distinctive knobbly surface, and again fixed using barbecue sticks, and five wicker spheres, fixed into position using wire legs. The pictures show the design viewed from both sides.
