FLORAL DESIGNS

DESIGN 172

For this design, I have used a cylindrical glass container, with a clear perspex dish which sits on the top and holds floral foam for the mechanics. The glass container is filled with Oasis® Rainbow Foam powder, in layers of two colours, fuchsia, and lime-green. For the height, I have used two beautiful Eucomis bicolor seed heads (Pineapple Lily). These last for weeks in flower arrangements. On the left of these in the picture are three purple-berried seed heads of Phytolacca americana (Pokeweed). Other flowers used are green spray Chrysanthemum 'Yoko Ono', pink roses, and cerise standard Carnations. The foliage used is Fatsia japonica variegata, Hedera helix (large green curly-edged leaves), and two trailing stems of Hedera helix. At the front of the design I have incorporated two green fruits of Maclura pomifera (Osage Organge), which look rather like knobbly apples, but are inedible. These have been impaled on some lime-green aluminium wire, which has been looped throughout the design. Not very visible in the picture, in the centre of the design, is a ring of lime-green sisal, which picks out the colour of the Rainbow foam.
