FLORAL DESIGNS

DESIGN 161 DESIGN 161 overhead view

For this design, I have used a round matte green plastic designer dish, with floral foam for the mechanics. First, I took two 24cm high foam cones, and cut off about 5cm from the bottom of one, and stuck the cut off part on to the base of the second cone using hot melt glue. This gave me two different height cones, one taller than the other. Next, I pinned on some Laurel leaves, beginning with smaller leaves at the top, and working my way down the cone in rows, using progressively larger leaves. Each leaf was cut in half first, to reduce bulk. I then fixed the two cones in the centre of the design using wooden barbecue sticks. I then added a collar of lime-green sisal around the edge of the foam, to hide it. I continued by adding some medium sized Ivy leaves in two groups, opposite each other. These were Hedera colchica 'Sulphur Heart', and Hedera colchica variegata. Next, I added groups of yellow Roses, pale green standard Carnations, and lime green button Chrysanthemums. I then added three small "nests" of the lime green sisal, for added texture. Finally, I used Flexi Grass in loops to add rhythm to the design. The pictures show the design from one side (L), and as viewed from above (R).
