This design is known as a "construction", and here I have used a red ceramic dish, with floral foam for the mechanics. To make the construction, I have used several stems of Equisetum hyemalis (snake grass, scouring rush, horsetail), and inserted them upright at intervals around the edge of the foam. Then I decided on the height, and bent the tops of the Equisetum over and wove them together to form a box shape. The stems were secured using lime-green bullion wire. Then I added a few more Equisetum stems at two lower levels, and again bent the tops and wove them together. I began the main design by adding three large pale pink Gerberas which rested on the top of the construction. I then added pink Roses at different heights within the construction, and some lime-green spray Chrysanthemums at the lower level for a contrast of colour. Some more lime-green bullion wire was woven around the design. Finally, I covered the floral foam with red sisal to hide the mechanics. No extra foliage was used in the design. |
