DESIGN 158

This is a design which incorporates accessories. I have used two deep blue glass bottles to the left of the design, and a deep blue base which picks up the colour of the bottles. The container is a plastic dish with floral foam for the mechanics. Accessories are anything in an arrangement which is not either mechanics, base, backboard, drapes, or plant materials. Accessories should enhance the design, but not be over-dominant. Because my bottles and base are blue, I have used blue flowers in the arrangement to bring this colour through. The arrangement itself is a symmetrical triangle, which lends itself to this type of arrangement with accesssories. I have used a selection of flowers - blue Camassia leichtinii, blue Hyacinthoides non-scripta (Bluebells), blue Veronica, pink Roses, pink Carnations and pink Heucherella 'Viking Ship', and white Roses, with white Lilies for the focal area. A few lime-green spray Chrysanthemums have been added for accent and recession. Foliage used is Eucalyptus gunnii, Phormium tenax purpurea, Mahonia japonica and Hedera colchica 'Sulphur Heart'. A few of the flowers have been brought across between the large and small bottles, in order to integrate them into the design. An accessory should never be added so that it looks like an afterthought, it should always have a few flowers or some foliage touching it. Finally, I have added another accessory - some blue glass chips in a group at the front of the design.
