For this arrangement I have used a galvanized jug, with a container inside to hold floral foam. The container is a plastic flower pot, the right size to fit just onto the rim of the jug, and I have filled the drainage holes with hot melt glue so that the pot holds water. The floral foam sits about 1" above the rim of the container. I have used spring flowers and interesting twigs and stems for this naturalistic design, and these are: Forsythia intermedia, Cornus "Midwinter Fire" twigs, Betula pendula twigs (weeping Birch), purple Dutch Iris, pink Tulips, mauve Freesias, and yellow/green Helleborus orientalis (Lenten Rose). Other foliage used is Buxus sempervirens aureomarginata (variegated Box), Hedera helix (ivy), and Hedera colchica "Sulphur Heart". Finally, to add some colour interest and texture, I have included a lime-green paper ribbon bow at the front of the design, which brightens it up and picks up the colour of the Hellebores. |
