This is a wreath table centre, incorporating candles. It is made on a commercially produced foam wreath ring. Firstly, I covered the edges of the wreath using green sisal, bound with lime-green bullion wire to keep in in shape. I then inserted the pink taper candles in a group. Then, I arranged a group of three miniature Pineapples (Ananas), opposite the candles. The candles and Pineapples were then linked with a group of Bear Grass (Xerophyllum tenax), looped across the wreath from one group to the other. Next, I pinned some folded Phormium tenax purpurea leaves around the wreath (see closeup picture and instructions below). I then added pink roses, pink standard Carnations, and pale green standard Carnations around the edges and in the gaps between the Phormium leaves. These were arranged so that they were visually balanced, with the colours evenly distributed. Any small gaps were then filled with Cladonia rangifera (Reindeer Moss), which was pinned into position. Finally, more lime-green bullion wire was wound round the design, and the candles. An overhead view of the wreath can be seen below. |
To make these leaves, split a Phormium leaf in half, down the centre, but leave the bottom of the leaf intact, so that you have the two sides of the leaf still joined together. Take the right hand side of the leaf, and fold it over the left hand side at right angles. Turn the leaf clockwise so that the right hand side is now upright, then take what is now the right hand side, and fold it over the upright side, again at right angles. Turn the leaf clockwise again, and continue folding each side of the leaf at right angles over the upright side, until you have used up all the leaf, then staple the two sides together to stop them undoing. |
