DESIGN 122

This is a traditional horizontal arrangement. The picture shows the arrangement viewed from above. This sort of design is suitable for use as a coffee table design if kept small, or a table centre or a wedding top table design if made larger. If it was to be used as a table centre, then it should not be more than 9" in height. This is so that guests can see each other across the table, without having to peer through the flowers! It is also a suitable design for a funeral, known in the trade as a double-ended funeral spray, and if made really large with much more flower material in it, it would be a suitable coffin spray. The technique is the same, whatever size you make it. This particular design is fairly small, being about 2 feet in length. I have used a plastic saucer with floral foam for the mechanics, firmly taped in. I have established the length first with two Cordyline australis leaves at either end, one slightly longer than the other. I then established the width, height and general shape of the design with more foliage, in this case Lonicera pileata. Other foliage used is Viburnum davidii and Hedera helix. For the focal flowers, I have used deep pink roses, and other flowers used are cerise Dendrobiums (Singapore Orchids), pale pink spray Carnations, and for recession, pale pink Chrysanthemums.
