For this design, I have used a large blue glass dish, with floral foam for the mechanics. To begin with, I wound some lime green paper ribbon, which was gathered with lime green metallic bullion wire, around the edge of the foam to disguise it. More paper ribbon has also been incorporated into the design itself. A ring of foliage was then added, and these were Hedera colchica 'Sulphur Heart', Hedera helix (plain green), and Hedera helix 'Buttercup'. The Hedera helix 'Buttercup' leaves which I chose for the design were ones which had been grown in the shade and were lime green rather than the usual bright yellow. These perfectly matched the colour of the paper ribbon. I have also used some Phormium tenax 'Maori Queen' leaves which were rolled and pinned to form a textured effect (see closeup picture below). The flowers were added in close groups, and were purple Mathiola incana (Stocks), purple Statice limonium, red Roses, Gerbera and Carnations, and beautiful lime green Celosia cristata (Cockscomb). Finally, I added three loops of Xerophyllum tenax (Bear Grass) across the design to form a "cage" and add texture. This was also bound with lime green metallic bullion wire. |
