This is a design incorporating fruit as well as flowers. I have used a wooden bowl with a plastic dish containing floral foam for the mechanics. For the height, I have used two Cordyline australis leaves, with Ruscus to the left. A further Cordyline leaf has been looped on the right of the design. Other foliage used is Bergenia cordata at the front, and Fatsia japonica variegata to the left and right of this. I have added some Xerophyllum tenax (Bear Grass), and I have also used some Hedera hibernica and Heuchera 'Plum Pudding', recessed into the arrangement. All the foliage was from the garden. Flowers used are pale peach standard Carnations, pale orange Roses, and green 'Kermit' Chrysanthemums. At the back left of the arangement, I have added a pineapple, and other fruit used are apples, and clementines. All the fruit is secured using wooden barbecue sticks. The apples and clementines have been covered with a layer of wax to help them to last longer in the design, and to cut down the amount of ethylene gas which they give off as they ripen. Ethylene gas causes flowers to mature, so that they do not last as long. |
