This design is a contemporary take on a posy arrangement. I have used a pale plain wooden container, with floral foam for the mechanics. I have chosen a strong colour scheme of red, magenta and purple. I began by making a ring of purple sisal, binding it together with gold bullion wire, and fixing it in place around the rim of the container with wire pins (see close-up picture, below). I then added the flowers in groups, arranged close together to form blocks of colour and texture. Next I added some loops of Bear Grass (Xerophyllum tenax) around the edge of the design, and finally, I added a few strands of purple sisal across the design, to give added texture and bring the colour of the ring of sisal through the design (see close-up picture, below). Only a small amount of sisal was added, as I didn't want to obscure the flowers. The flowers used were red Roses, red Carnations, red Leucadendron, magenta spray Carnations, lilac Statice limonium (syn. Limonium sinuatum), and deep purple Lissianthus (syn. Eustoma). |
