For this arrangement, which was a demonstration to my students of an idea for a competition entry called "Fun With Flowers", I have used a glass vase, and the new Oasis® Rainbow Foam Powder for the mechanics. I have used three colours of the powder; lilac, yellow and lime-green, and have layered the colours to create a striped effect. For the height, I have used several stems of Corylus avellana 'Contorta' (Contorted Hazel), which have been sprayed yellow and lilac, to match the Oasis® Rainbow Foam Powder in the vase. For foliage, I have used Bergenia, Fatsia japonica variegata (trimmed to shape), and Arum italicum 'Marmoratum'. Flowers used are yellow Roses, yellow Mini Gerberas, cerise Carnations, and lilac Tulips, with a small amount of lime-green Bupleurum griffithii. Finally, to add a bit of fun to the design, I have added some yellow and lilac balloons. These have been only slightly inflated, in order to keep their size in proportion with the arrangement. Fully-inflated balloons would have been far too large! I have wedged the balloons in the spirals of the Corylus avellana 'Contorta', where they seemed to be quite stable. |
