Bergenia is an evergreen plant which grows to about 30cm tall. It spreads slowly and is a useful ground cover plant. It has shiny, leathery leaves which are very useful as a foil to other more feathery or spiky leaves. They are very long lasting in arrangements. It has lovely pink or white flowers in spring. Some varieties have leaves which are tinted maroon in winter.
